BA Companion Voucher and Tier Status Expiry Dates Extended Again
BA Companion Voucher holders and customers with Executive Club status have recently received some good news, with the airline extending the expiry dates for both. If you haven’t already heard, read on to find out more.
BA Executive Club Status Extensions
British Airways has announced that Executive Club members, whose current membership year end date for Tier Point collection falls between July 1 and December 31, 2021, will have their current Bronze, Silver, Gold or Gold Guest List status protected for a further 12 months, irrespective of the number of Tier Points they earn. The announcement follows a previous one year extension, given to members from June 2020. This means no British Airways Executive Club member will lose their premium status in 2021, even if Covid-19 restrictions limit the number of flights they can take this year. BA has also sustained reductions to the number of Tier Points required to reach each status level by 25%, for members whose Tier Point collection year ends before July 2022.
Reduced Tier Point Status Qualification Thresholds:
- Bronze: Down from 300 to 225 Tier Points or 18 eligible flights
- Silver: Down from 600 to 450 Tier Points or 37 eligible flights
- Gold: Down from 1500 to 1125 Tier Points
The new expiry dates will show on both BA.com and the BA app, though it has sometimes taken BA a few days to reflect previous tier extensions across everyone’s accounts and that might be the case this time too.
BA Voucher Extensions
In February, BA announced a new six-month extension to various Executive Club vouchers which they have now clarified in more detail. This is the third such extension and it applies to vouchers due to expire by the end of December 2021. It covers several types of Avios companion voucher, including the BA Companion Voucher awarded to qualifying BA American Express card holders in the UK.
Other Avios companion voucher types covered include: Chase Travel Together, RBC Companion Awards, Asba Companion Vouchers, RSB American Express Companion Vouchers and RSB World Mastercard Companion Vouchers.
Expiration dates have also been extended for cherished Gold Upgrade vouchers, including the Gold Upgrade for Two voucher (GUF2) and Gold Upgrade for One vouchers (GUF1).
In another piece of good news, new companion vouchers, earned before 31 December 2021, will have an additional six months added to their expiry date.
Executive Club members who wish to cancel an existing companion voucher booking, now that expiration dates have been extended, can do so online by logging into their account. The voucher, Avios and the majority of fees and taxes will be refunded for customers that cancel their reservation, to use their voucher for a later date.
Don’t forget BA Companion Voucher flights must be booked and flown before the expiry date of the voucher. So in a way these latest extensions were inevitable to prevent BA’s flagship perks becoming effectively worthless, in countries like the UK, whilst strict travel restrictions are in place. Reward Flight Finder offers British Airways voucher holders the opportunity to view a full year of availability for BA Companion Voucher flights, across all cabin classes.
