British Airways reward flight availability for 2021 appears to be good at the moment. Fewer people than usual have been booking scheduled flights from the UK as a consequence of the fall out of the coronavirus pandemic. In fact, there appears to be a “double whammy” situation, looking at data from Reward Flight Finder. Because there are fewer reservations being made on flights from the UK (a situation exacerbated by the British Government’s “spin the bottle” approach to quarantine rules), BA has released more reward flights than usual on many routes. Yet, whilst there are more reward flights out there, reward flight bookings are down too. Executive Club tier statuses have been extended as have the deadlines on BA Companion Vouchers. This might have led frequent fliers to bide their time and not use their Avios yet to secure their 2021 flights.

Whilst things may seem uncertain at the moment, the current situation is unlikely to endure and now is a great time to secure future flights with Avios whilst BA Reward Flight Availability is so good. The risks are fairly low if your plans, or the situation changes, next year:

If BA cancels your future flights, you will be entitled to a full refund. British Airways currently has a “Book With Confidence” policy in place. This allows you to change your travel dates and destination without incurring a change fee, or even cancel completely, giving you greater flexibility to adapt to unforeseen circumstances. Even if the policy were to end, the “standard” cancellation fee, for a flight booked with Avios, is £35 per person, or the taxes and charges, whichever is lowest. In the vast majority of cases, the £35 is lower than the taxes and fees.

Although there are never any guarantees, British Airways/IAG is one of the biggest global airline groups and least likely to go out of business despite the woes currently facing the industry. It has an excellent safety record too, So making a BA booking is all-round a lower risk choice than many of the alternatives for future travel.

Furthermore, there are signs that demand for points bookings on some routes is picking up as global travel restrictions start to ease. Hong Kong, Cape Town and Singapore are three destinations which have seen an increase in searches over the last month. Popular routes to New York, Boston, Miami, Tokyo, Sydney and Barbados are currently showing a number of open reward seats from March 2021 still, but that could change, particularly if the travel restrictions in place for counties like the USA, Australia and Japan are relaxed in the coming weeks.

So if you are thinking of using your Avios for a trip next year, now might be a good time to book, whilst British Airways reward flight availability is good and the airline has flexible booking policies in place. Certainly with the large number of Club World seats available with Avios right now, the gains could greatly outweigh the minimal risk on departures to long-haul destinations.

If you want to discover where your points could take you, Rewardflightfinder.com lets you search available reward flights for the year ahead and set up alerts, to be among the first to know when new seats are released. Safe travels!
