British Airways Companion Voucher Expiry Dates Extended
British Airways Companion Voucher expiry dates have been extended again, due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The airline’s October 2020 announcement states that any valid BA 2 for 1 Companion Voucher, as well as Gold Upgrade Vouchers, due to expire between October 1st 2020 and March 31st 2021, will be valid for an additional six months.
If customers haven’t yet earned their annual BA 2 for 1 companion voucher but will do so by the end of March 2021, their new voucher will also have 6 months added onto the normal expiry date.
The Companion Voucher is one of the best travel perks available, from a UK credit card provider and is offered to holders of British Airways American Express cardholders that exceed a minimum spend threshold within their membership year. It essentially allows the holder to book two reward flights, for the same number of Avios normally required for single-seat redemption. However, taxes and surcharges are still payable for both passengers. Nonetheless, it is a great way to maximise the value of Avios points and can make long haul business class tickets accessible, to holidaying passengers that may otherwise find it hard to justify the cost.
The news will be a great relief for UK frequent fliers, eligible for the 2–4–1 voucher, but who want to delay their travel plans due to the COVID-19 situation and the consequent travel restrictions, still in place within many countries.
In the USA, a similar benefit is offered to holders of the British Airways Visa Signature Credit Card, which offers British Airways companion flights via a scheme known as the “Travel Together Ticket”. The airline has confirmed that it is also extending by 6 months the validity of Travel Together tickets earned between June 2020 and the end of March 2021.
BA Executive Club members can check their accounts online and should see that the expiration dates for any vouchers, which they have already earned, have automatically been extended.
It’s worth remembering that you only need to book your trip or apply your 2–4–1 voucher to an existing booking by the expiry date, for travel up to 12 months after.
